Policies and Procedures for Kindermusik® Classes

WHEN TO ARRIVE
Plan to arrive 5 – 10 minutes before your class time. This allows the children a few minutes to settle in and explore books/instruments before class begins.
WHAT TO BRING
Please do not allow your child to bring food, toys or other articles that are potential disruptions. All items and instruments that are needed for class will be provided for you.
NON-ENROLLED SIBLINGS
Due to limited class size and unique class setting, we regret that Village and Our Time classes can only accommodate infants if they are contained in a car seat or stroller. It is ideal for the parent to bring only the enrolled child to class in order to give full attention to that child. Emergency situations are considered however, so please ask if a non-enrolled sibling must “tag-a-long”. Siblings are welcome for Family Sharing Time in the Imagine That classes.
GUIDELINES FOR THE CAREGIVER
If at all possible, please turn off cell phones during class. Plan to visit with other parents during gathering time or as you leave, but not DURING class. Remember that you are a role model for your children – if you are not paying attention to your child in class, they may not pay attention to you when you want them to! Your child will appreciate the effort you put into making him or her a priority during this special time!
MAKE-UP CLASSES
Classes will be made up in the event of teacher illness or inclement weather. You will be notified of the scheduled make-up day. If you miss a class please check with the teacher to see if there is another class you can visit during the week as a make up.
TUITION
Our $50 registration fee is nonrefundable, but is applied to the total cost of tuition. If you submit the registration fee before the first class, your remaining tuition is due at the first class. Payment plans are available. You may also pay in full at registration.
MAKING THE MOST OF KINDERMUSIK CLASS
The most important thing you can do for your child is be an active, but patient role model. Your child may not follow the teacher at first, but they will follow you. Let your child see and hear you doing the activities. Kindermusik encourages imagination and individuality, so if the teacher is tapping rhythm sticks on the floor, but your child prefers to tap them together……follow the child and have fun! Please remember, Kindermusik is PROCESS oriented, not PERFORMANCE driven.
Many children often take several weeks to feel comfortable in class. But soon, the structure of the class feels comfortable and familiar to them. You can reinforce musical participation by actively using your At Home Materials. This will be a significant benefit in the Kindermusik experience for both you and your child.
We understand that young children are still learning how to interact in a group setting. A “wandering child” can gently be encouraged to rejoin the group, or the parent can go to the child and do the activity. As long as the child is not compromising his safety, or the safety of others, don’t be discouraged. Remember, the more you participate and follow the child’s lead, the more benefits there will be for both. What’s most important is what the children do musically at home. The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver both in class and at home are key to the process of musical learning and growth being facilitated.
Our goal is not to produce child prodigies, but musical children. We hope to enable your child to have a love and appreciation of music that will last a lifetime.
