Our Teachers

Our TEACHERS make the DIFFERENCE!

Mary Beth Frasier, also our Executive Director, founded Music Time Learning Center along with Andrea Drath  in 2004. Her degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music took her into private teaching, public school teaching, church music and then on to serving children, parents and other music teachers through Music Time Learning Center. She has a passion for teaching, a heart for serving and cries every time she hears a children's choir sing! Mary Beth and her husband Kevin raised two children in Lawrenceville who now serve in the US Navy and as a Police Officer.

Janice Bevels has been teaching children’s music for more than fifteen years, in music programs like Kindermusik and Music Camp, as well as private piano and group piano lessons, children’s choirs and children's chimes. In addition to teaching with Music Time Learning, she is the assistant music director at McKendree United Methodist Church, and the McKendree Prechool music teacher, a program which provides music education for nearly 140 children each year. Janice is married and has three children. She graduated with honors from Oglethorpe University with a degree in Business Administration; her corporate experience includes General Electric and BellSouth.

Tim Wheeler has been teaching piano 30+ years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Master's degree in Piano Pedagogy, both from Georgia State University. Tim is nationally certified in piano and theory by the Music Teachers National Association and is active with the Gwinnett County Music Teachers Association. His eclectic background covers classical, jazz, and rock music. He is a composer, arranger, and song-writer, and performs regularly around Atlanta as a solo pianist. He owns DoubleSharp Music Recording Studio where he can be found recording, mixing, or producing all different styles of music.

Marion Compton graduated with honors from Appalachian State University with a degree in piano performance. She began teaching piano in Gwinnett County 12 years ago when her six children were still small. It soon became evident to Marion that when children study an instrument, they are also learning many things needful for life, such as perseverance, poise, hard work, appreciation for beauty and listening to others. She believes studying an instrument also improves a student’s ability to develop other skills, both academically and socially. An active member in the Gwinnett County Music Teachers Association, Marion also teaches a high school music theory class and accompanies the middle school chorale at Artios Gwinnett as well as teaching private piano at home and with Music Time.

Paul Thieken relocated in January 2007 to Dacula, GA from Easton, PA, where he was the Director of Entertainment for Dorney Park, a theme park in Pennsylvania. He has over 30 years of experience in teaching, performing, writing and producing music. Paul has toured seven different countries playing piano, and has performed for many celebrities and dignitaries including Bob Hope, President Reagan and President Bush. Other performance highlights include playing piano on Premier Cruise Lines, Busch Gardens, Cedar Point and for numerous musicals and pageants. Paul is a stay-at-home dad in Dacula, GA, with his wife and two daughters.

Karen Thieken. Singing, dancing, having fun, being silly and making children laugh are the highlights of Karen's experience since she began working at Music Time Learning Center in June, 2011. She has been involved in music, in one way or another, since she was a small child. One could always find her playing piano, singing in choirs or performing in musicals.

In addition to her duties at MTLC, Karen has been the Music Youth Leader at McEver Road United Methodist Church since 2008 and has taught music and movement at several local daycares.

Karen lives in a very noisy but musical household in Dacula with her husband and two daughters... always singing, dancing or playing music!

David Truax has been playing guitar for more than 30 years. His musical background and education includes high school and college jazz band, a pursuit in a music major, teaching, weddings, session work, gigging and touring with a variety of bands and styles and recording 2 CD's. His love for all styles of music permeates all of his playing and teaching as he encourages students to love music beyond their instrument. He is currently working on jazz guitar and classical repertoire and pursuing lessons himself knowing that you never move beyond the place of learning no matter how long you may have been playing. David considers it a passion and privelege to share his love of music with others.
